Paint Shop Pro

Hi,

I currently use Paint shop pro and am wondering if I should consider upgrading to Photoshop. What does Photoshop have that PSP doesnt? I am not that great in graphics but would like to get better.

Thanks!
Burt

BTW, I love this site!

Burt,

The decision to upgrade from PSP to PS is not always an easy one. From a financial standpoint, Photoshop costs about $500 more then PSP.

Photoshop is more powerful then Paint Shop Pro is. It can do more. But do you need the "more". If you are getting what you need from PSP, then I do not think there is a reason to upgrade.

What I suggest is that you read the Photoshop tutorials on this site along with other sites tutorials to see if the things demonstrated are things you would like to do. If so, then you might want to upgrade.

BTW, I have been using PSP since it was on one disk that I got at a fair back in around 1996! It was great even then

We appreciate your positive feedback about the site. Your support helps us continue!

Thanks,
Allen

Burt,

I agree with Allen but wanted to add my two cents...

Just upgrading to Photoshop won't make you a better graphics artist. And learning a program has very little to do with how much you improve. Instead, it is concepts that must be learned. I would say that you could probably learn quite a few of these concepts quite easily with PSP. When you get to more advanced concepts and need the added tweaks of Photoshop (because that's really all it gives you over PSP, is technical tweaks) it might be a consideration.

Hope this helps,
Nate

Smile Make that 4 cents ...

Hi Burt,

Just want to add my support to Nate's comments.

My partner is the graphics whizz here, and she uses both PSP 6.0 and PhotoShop 5.0 extensively both at work and on our own site.

She says there are small differences, some things one program does which the other doesn't. Which is why she uses both, depending on the task at hand.

Her default choice is PSP though, and she wouldn't be using PhotoShop at all if her employer hadn't paid for it. My opinion is that PhotoShop isn't worth the significant extra cost [$700! ] unless you're going into professional graphic work - in which case you'll probably need both programs.

Of course there might be something significant in the new PhotoShop 7.0 - I think I've seen 1 [or is it 2? ] posts about that somewhere ...
