PWS problems

I don't understand. There were times when the Personal Web Server (for windows 98 SE) worked just fine. But now it's not working.

When I had newly installed the PWS right after reformatting the computer and reinstalling the win98SE, later on it would have problems publishing my webpages. So I decided to uninstall and reinstall.

But during my first installation, there was a "Malicious Script" which I allowed, because I need to use the program and it wouldn't work otherwise (if I block it or delete it I don't remember my options).

But when PWS failed to publish I decided to reinstall (by uninstalling it first) PWS. But now when it comes to near the end of installation, this is the message it occurs:

sysocmgr.exe seems to be malfunctioning. But the PWS is in the Windows/system/inetsrv. So I opened the PWS found in inetsrv and "start" and the negative reply object says:

There was an unexpected error using the Metabase. Error = 3
So I don't know what's causing the problem.

Maybe this helps:
http://www.google.com/search?&q=PWS%20Sysocmgr

But Windows 98 is really obsolete. Try to update. Anything beyond Windows 2000 ships with the IIS. Which is - of course - not my webserver of choice, but far better than the PWS.

Cheers,
Till

windows xp = more viruses?

Doesn't Windows XP have more viruses?

XP doesn't run on DOS. So can I install on top of WIN98SE? Doesn't it erase all files that presently exist?

Well, I don't know if it has more.

Windows in general is not the best option, in any case (Windows or not), if your system is not patched, you are vulnerable. Just depends on the plattform what is going to get you. You can setup a basic nix system and use Apache with Chilisoft to do ASP.

If you update your computer, make sure you backup all files. But this kind of support is beyond HTMLCenter's scope.

Well in any case. If you update, just make sure you backup all files. Installing Windows XP or whatever is not that hard.
