integrating paypal with stock control

hi

does anybody know if you can get a paypal shopping cart system to update stock levels held in a database. This problem arrives because you can edit quantities from within the paypal shopping basket and so any updating of the stock database done on my site as the products are added to the basket will be incorrect.

I really wouldnt know where to start, my knowledge of php aint bad but i dont think its something that i could do because the basket is on another site surely?

any help would be much appreciated

since paypal can send someone back to the thank you page on your site, could you then hit the inventory db?

but do you think there is anyway to get paypal to send the info of exatley what was purchased to the page via session variables etc?
