Hotmetal 6

I've also been using Hotmetal for a long time, and find it's very easy. I guess you just grow into it and learn to handle it's idiosyncracies. One thing I'd like to figure out, is what file I can edit so the elements are written in lowercase instead of being forced into uppercase when loading a document in either the wysiwyg or source view modes.

I understand that uppercase html elements will be phased out in the future, so I'd like to be able to make pages that will still hold up after several years! Any ideas will be welcome.

Thanks,
Adrian

I've got the hurt on for a new HoTMetaL version too!

Here's what I love about it: Tags on wysiwyg.

It is so easy to edit a page when you can see both the layout and the tags on one screen. You can see exactly what is going on. Click on a tag and select properties and tag editing it easy. Except for the program being buggy, resource intensive, and garbling up my php code, it is very easy to use.

I'm trying out DreamWeaver MX right now. It is so difficult to edit in wysiwyg (design) mode. I don't know where I am tag wise. I can edit the source code of course, but as an intermediate webmaster, it's not easy/fun. Going back and forth on different screens (code and design view) is a pain. If DreamWeaver showed where the tags are, while in the 'design' mode, it would be great!

My most recent version of HoTMetaL is 5. Is 6 much better? Can it handle my php code without trying to convert it to html when I use tags on view? If so, anyone willing share it?

Thanks,

Chris

Smile web editor

If you need a web editor and other thingie stuff with your website… I would suggest to have a Dreamweaver MX, it offers quality picks that would really satisfy your needs… better check it yourself now… good luck!

What happens to the software license when the company no longer supports the product and doesn't replace the product with another?
According to several Companies that have gone out of business or stopped production/support of certain software, they don't really care. The copyright of the software is no longer valid since there is absolutely no support for it anymore.

Smile HotMetalPro v6

I'm a new member wanting to say Hi ! and have to agree that HotMetal Pro v6 (HMP) was great for getting right in among the HTML coding. I was asked by my company if I could write a help file in HTML to be integrated into a computer based system. I bought a book on HTML 4 by Elizabeth de Castro on Saturday morning and, after a speed read over the weekend, started the job on Monday morning using HMP v3. I've still got the stress scars from that job !! HMP v3 was pretty awful, but I really got to learn how to use and manipulate HTML. I also found no problems integrating javascript (some of which I specially modified) into HMP v6. Unlike Dreamweaver and some other similar wysiwyg packages, HMP doesn't add additional HTML coding into your files, "it does exactly what it says on the tin" as the saying goes (well most of the time !). However, having now used HMP v4, v5 and v6, on other jobs, I would only recommend HMP v6 to anyone new to the game, as most of the initial bugs have been refined out of it, and also for the ease of learning how to use it. I speak from experience, as the IT people who installed the software and maintained my company's computer systems, never had any instruction manuals available. Now, I am also in the seemingly growing queue of web designers trying to find a copy. I know this thread has been going on for a long time now, but if anyone can help me get a copy of HMP v6, I would really appreciate it.
