Hi All,
Kudos to Allen for a fine review of a fine product. I've only used HomeSite 4.5, but Allen's review captures the essence of the power and rich feature set I remember.
I agree fully with Allen's overall assessment that HomeSite is the best code editor out there, and with his 5/5 rating. It really is that good - heck, it was that good in 4.5, and if 5.0 is even better ...
I remember the feature which really hooked me was the great tag toolset - the inspector and insights. The Insight was particularly useful to me, given that I was [still am!] not at all proficient with the considerable detail in the finer points of HTML.
I learned more about HTML in the few months I used HomeSite than in the previous 2 years. Not because I sweated harder, but because HomeSite makes it so easy to see what's going on in the code, which in turn encourages experimenting and learning - almost as a by-product.
If I was contemplating a web design career, I think I'd do my initial building in DreamWeaver and then apply the final polish with HomeSite. If I became truly proficient, I wouldn't be surprised to end up following Allen's path of HomeSite alone.
Nice job Allen - and HomeSite too of course
