Looking For Two Different Things (Download Related)
I'm not sure if this is in the right place or not, but I figure if I'm not sure, OT is the best place to put it.
Anyway, I'm looking for two different things to go along with our new hosting account.
1) I'd like to find some sort of script that can help us manage our downloads. We will now be offering most of our downloads from two separate locations, and I'd like some sort of script that will dynamically choose, from a single link, which of our locations to grab the file from. In other words, user 1 clicks on the link and downloads the file from server 1. User 2 clicks on the same link and downloads the file from server 2. Both downloads should be counted by a single click-counter.
I'm sure I could fairly easily draw something like this up with PHP, but I'm just curious if there's already something like that out there (we'd be looking for freeware - preferably open-source).
In addition, it would be nice if that script somehow managed the files as though they were actually "mirrored". In other words, if someone uses a download manager to download the files, it would be nice if their download manager would be able to find both copies of the same file, and download from both locations at once (I'm not quite sure how download managers accomplish this task, so I'm not sure how to make sure that that is supported on our site).
2) I'm looking for a nice, freeware (preferably open-source) program (preferably cross-platform - if it's not cross-platform, then I'll be looking for one for each operating system) to help our users manage their downloads. Occasionally, when dial-up users try to download our CD images, the downloads end early. Our server supports resuming broken downloads, so they should be able to simply start downloading the file again, and have it pick up where it left off. However, this is a whole lot easier when they're using a download manager to download the files. In addition, as mentioned above, it would be nice if they could draw from both of our servers at once, in order to hopefully speed up their download. We would like to find a really nice, free download manager that we can offer as a download from our site, and possibly endorse as our official download manager.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
