as many in programming area knw im relatively quite new to web design. I was pondering on how on earth google make lots of money by providing us the service of searching every website available through their searching techniques.
Is there a way for money to be made?
a question arises about advertising. if somebody wanted to have a section on my website, what wud i quote them?
any websites or thread u cud refer me to?

Well, the way Google makes money is through selling advertising. It's the same with any radio station or broadcast television station. It's all in advertising.
Onto your second question - in order to decide how much to charge for advertising, you are going to need to do some research into your own site. You are going to need to study your own statistics. You are going to need to know how many unique visitors you have each day. Basically, you will need to prove to any potential advertisers that your site is worth advertising on. You will need hard data to show how many people visit your site each day.
I don't really have any resources to recommend, as I have never really looked into selling advertising on my sites.
