Unhappy Windows switching

I know for a fact that one can switch to and from different windows by minimizing them to the task bar and hitting Alt-Tab.However,this is what happens on my PC!!
I minimize Window A and the icon appears on the task bar-OK.But when I open Window B,Window A maximizes for about 10 seconds and then Window B comes up.I don't know if this is normal but then when I minimize Window B,Window A has disappeared from the task bar!
I tend to think that I've done something naughty because Word has also vanished(I don't if this is related to my first problem).
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Moved.

I don't know much about your problem as I never ran into it.
