It depends on how much the other person wants to sell that domain to you for. If the person is still friendly it can be had for 0, but if that person wants to keep a stake in this thing, they could try to sell it to you for $100s.

This means that if the other person wants to keep the invision message board that they paid for, it means that you need to purchase a new copy of the message board, a license is what the company uses that says you bought there application and you may use it. Its like a CD Key, say for windows.

You will have to make your best judgment on this one. If you think your site will grow and need more than a gig worth of space, than yes, you will need to upgrade. You can look at your hosting statistics to made a decision on that. And if you can justify the extra cost of the upgrade. Might be worth while looking for a cheaper host if you need that much space and bandwidth.
