What size are you trying to print?

As for the actual painting, just add some happy little trees.

It sounds to me as though you are either not setting your resolution properly when you resize or when you print, or you are simply choosing the wrong options when printing.

Here are the steps for resizing:
  1. Open the image
  2. Go to Image->Resize (or press Shift+S)
  3. Set your resolution to 300 or 600 (depending on how much that requires you to upscale the image - most home printers are capable of printing up to 600 DPI - some will even print 1200 - but 300 DPI will still give you pretty decent quality)
  4. Set your size in inches, remembering that you won't be able to print all the way to the edges of the page, so you'll probably want to size it at something like 7.5 x 10 (but make sure you keep the two settings locked together, so you don't stretch the image disproportionately)
  5. Press "OK"

There are two options for printing in PSP XI.

Here are the steps for option 1:
  1. Go to File->Print (or press Ctrl+P)
  2. Set your size and position properly (if you resized the image properly, you should be able to set it for 100%, but you may need to scale it up or down)
  3. You can also choose "Fit to Page" if you want it to automatically be scaled to the size of the page.
  4. If your image is wider than it is tall, you should choose "Landscape" as your "Orientation"
  5. Press "Print"

Here are the steps for option 2:
  1. Go to File->Print Layout
  2. Open a template that matches the paper you will be printing on (especially helpful if you're printing on photo paper or labels or some other odd shaped/sized paper)
  3. Drag the image from the side bar over to the paper
  4. PSP will most likely prompt you that it won't fit on the paper without scaling it. Choose to do so.
  5. If you need to rotate the image, you can right-click on it, and choose to "Rotate Right" or "Rotate Left".
  6. Then, right-click again and choose "Resize"
  7. Click the radio button next to "Actual Print Size"
  8. Set the print size.
  9. Go to File->Print

I hope that helps. I am an avid PSP user, so I should be able to help with a lot of questions.

Pspxi Help

Thanks Curtiss For Answering my plea
Maybe more info would help so we are on the same page.
This is what I am trying to do---I race 1/8 scale R/C sprint cars-the ones with a big wing on top,I know some of the drivers so i ask them if I could take pictures of their car.
Then I am trying to make decals of their graphics, place them inside the body,tail and wing then I paint inside body etc.That way the graphics do not get mutatled.
The largest peice would be the side dams of the wing,which is 8 inches long X 3 inches high,many smaller pics.Like the wrap method they are using on delivery vans,boxed trucks and such.I use a EPSON STYLUS PHOTO R300 pritner just to see if size and colors came out.Say for talk sake the no. 6 will go on the tail which is 2 " high x1 1/2" wide.Now I would open and bring up that image and where do I go from there.
If you could talk me into how I would do this then I should have more intelligent questions to ask.Hope you have some idea of what a 410 full size sprint car looks like so you would know what I am trying to do.
Thanks in advance

I don't see where my original instructions went wrong.

I see the car you are talking about, and I can imagine what you are doing with the images. I just don't see where my instructions led you awry.

Let's say you open the image that you want to put on the 2" x 1-1/2" tail.
  1. Open the image
  2. Go to Image->Resize (or press Shift+S)
  3. Set your resolution to 300
  4. Set your size in inches.
  5. If your image is not proportionate to 2 x 1-1/2, then you will need to decide whether you want to crop the image (cut off part of it that won't fit in the area), stretch the image (make it look funny by stretching it further one direction than the other), or matte the image (create a solid color area either on top/bottom or on right/left of the image).
  6. Press "OK"
  • If you want to crop the image, then you will set your height to 2". If your width is wider than 1-1/2", then you will click "OK". Then, go to Image->Canvas Size, set your units to inches, and set the height to 2" and the width to 1-1/2". If your width is smaller than 1-1/2", then you will want to set your width to 1-1/2", which will then make your height larger than 2". Press "OK", then go to Image->Canvas Size, set your units to inches, and set the height to 2" and the width to 1-1/2".
  • If you want to stretch the image, uncheck the "Constrain Proportions" box, and set your width to 1-1/2" and your height to 2".
  • If you want to matte your image, set your height to 2". If your width is narrower than 1-1/2", then you press OK. Then, go to Image->Canvas Size, set your units to inches, and set the height to 2" and the width to 1-1/2". If your width is wider than 1-1/2", then you want to set your width 1-1/2", press "OK", then adjust the canvas size to 2" x 1-1/2". Then, you can fill the transparent areas in your image with whatever color you want them to be (probably the base paint color of the tail).

I'm sorry. I didn't intend for my last post to sound like I was upset. I certainly wasn't, I was just confused.

I'll try to take some screenshots showing you what I'm talking about tonight.

Alrighty. I took a screenshot.

First, you need to look at the section outlined in red. Put your cursor in the area with the number, and type 300. When you tab out, it will change to 300.000 (that's three hundred and zero thousandths).

Next, take a look at the section outlined in green. If you want to crop or matte the image, make sure that checkbox is checked. If you want to stretch the image, uncheck that checkbox.

Finally, look at the section outlined in blue. Change that to the correct size, making sure that you have "inches" selected as your unit of measure.

I hope that helps.

Thats the kind of info I need,Its the little things that bite you.
However after setting everything & printing,the image came out full page???
Everything I make will not be proportinal because I have to fit it to th bodys.
The dimensions stayed what I put in.
That is the{Original Dimensions}box at the top.
I put in the {Print size}box,Width 1.713 inches,Height2.337,but these no`s changed when I printed it?????????
Resolution stayed the same 300.both places
In setting it up--
I checked the{Resample using Bicubic
I unchecked {Maintain orignal print size
I unchecked {Lock aspect etc.the no`s in line with the [Lock aspect} where real dim,which where not actiatved.I don`t know if that has anything to do with or not
And I checked {Resize all layers}
And then I clicked OK
????????????

OK. Then the problem must be happening when you go to print the picture.

I have attached a new screenshot.

When you print, there are a few things to check.

First, check the green area, and make sure that you have not selected "Fit to page".
Then, check the red area, and make sure it is set to 100% (which will look like 100.000)
Finally, check the blue area to make sure that shows the correct size of the image. If it does not, then change it so that it does.

Also, some notes:
When you save the image, be sure to save it in a format that retains resolution settings. Here are a few formats that will retain those settings:
pspimage
psd
bmp
png

Here are a few that will not:
jpg
gif
