Need to reduce size of images in printable tutorials - help
Hi all, I hope someone can give me some quick advice.
I have recently started writing tutorials,. and have two up on my website so far,. which are fine, however I'm in the middle of writing the third tutorial which is enormous
because of the complex nature of what I am trying to teach.
To see what I mean, I have a preview page of the tutorial here http://www.studioheath.com/tute003.htm(scroll down a little, and the tutorial I am writing is based on the pendant top left, only it has turned out even more complex than those in the picture).
So here is my problem. So far, my tutorial is only part way complete, is
already 29pages and 83photos long. I have just finished photograping and have another 133 photos I need to include in the tutorial to take it to the finish. Currently the tutorial in
Word format is 50.6mb and converted to pdf it is 19.3mb,.. the photos are
800x800pixels, 100 pixels/cm.
What I need to know is this,.. how can I get the size of these images down,
without compromising too much and losing print quality, as the folk that use
these tutorials often need to print them.
I basically need to find a way to keep the pics nice on the screen,. but still be reasonably good for printing,. but obviously the size of my tutorial will be rediculously huge the way I am going. Need to find a balance.
Any suggestions pleeeeeeeese,.. need to do this quickly.
Many thanks,
Remy

First off, regarding the size of these files and amount of pictures:
I would recommend to drop the resolution down to 72, and then maybe also saving the files again with Irfanview. I.E. open the files with Irfanview, and save them with the same name in the same folder; just leave the settings at 100%, and Irfanview will drop the file size by quite a bit.
29 pages... that's nuts!
I like making these penny necklaces.

Wou might also want to change the pictures to thumbnails instead of posting the full picture. Inside the img tag adjust the height/width appropriately. When they click on it load the full picture, this way you can still have a high quality img.

It's my understanding that the question is for Word/PDF conversions. Even if you shrink the img within Word/PDF/HTML, the imgs' file size are still going to be the same.

Holy crap! Let me toss in a sheep for you... How many ppl are going to take the time to actually go through all of that stuff?
Negative, I do not use tin snips... I use a little something of which who I have worked for for about six years now. And that has been well over 100 penny necklaces and 200 penny demonstrations! Just remember, that is something of which I have done for a long time, and if I find out someone else is doing it, I could become really upset.
laughing out loud! At least you are honest up front about " 65 pages long and a whopping 190 photographs!!!!!"
