Angry "Obect Expected" error causes teeth grinding....

I run Explorer 6.o and have been getting the little white boxes with the little red "X"'s for a while now. I believe I have all the updated software from Microsoft, but I still get the error. I don't get it all the time, but always on say, the weather channel, or cnn. (but not on subsequent pages within cnn). This is starting suck. Any help? Please, in the name of everything good and holy....

By chance is your OS Windows XP? May be you need to install Java. Due to lawsuit between MS and Sun, Java was removed from XP. Just taking a guess that IE6 is trying to tell you that it can't run Java code encountered in web pages. Go to Sun's site to get a full Java engine for XP if this is possibly the problem you are having.

Hmm,

It also occurs to me that some other program could have changed the defauts for JPEGs and GIFs in your registry. That will cause the boxes with the red "X". If you are running Win9x (not XP), I have a handy little regedit file I can send you that re-inserts the default associations back into your registry. Fire off an email to me if you need this.

Thumbs up

Following should fix the red "X" being displayed in IE.

If you are using Win9x and NOT using Windows XP, you can create a file which will merge in the defaults for gifs and jpegs back into your Windows registry. The following has been tested and verified for Win9x systems ONLY. Cut and paste everything between the ******* into Notepad. Save the file as "GIF_JPEG_restore_defaults.reg". Once saved, you can right click on the file in explorer and select Merge to merge these defaults back into your registry. Reboot for settings to take effect.
