You can always get the latest development version of Mozilla at http://www.Mozilla.org. Most of the time it's far more stable than the Netscape beta ... uhm... crap.

Haha.
Btw, you can use <layer> as an alternative in other browsers.

I know this voting is over. But does anyone know was cat. Neoplanet would be under? I like it because it is like Netscape and IE together. I like that Acrobat stuff is opened in the browser versa open your program and running it from there. My two cents.

I always thought neoplanet was an IE-clone. Or am I wrong?

Scroll down, it says it's compatible with IE4. I think that's what it's based on.

Hi there.
I (i.e. my Pentium I-133 powerhouse machine) use IE 5 for reasons of speed and compatibility.
Netscape 6 is way too slow, Opera just looks crappy (sorry about that, but I guess most of you will agree.)
When programming a web page, I focus a lot on compatibility w/ different kinds of browsers, but with Opera that's a hard thing to do. Alrighty, it's fast, European, tiny and all and some features are quite neat, but the way it displays my carefully arranged tags just made my kick it.

I found out that most code that worked in Netscape 4.78, also worked in any other browser.
I like opera for the way it puts all your websites in one browser window. But IE6 and Mozilla do those things as well, (with the right addon installed).

Hi,
I've just recently gone up a cog from ie5 to ie6 - I like it - it handles pretty much any silly code I try to get away with. I do, however, continue to use Netscape 4.78 to check compatibility - as you say, tthurgo - if it works in 4.78, it'll work in anything - unfortunately, not much of my code works in 4.78. This used to concern me at first, but now I figure, what the heck - I'm running a non-commercial site, my stats tell me that 99% of my visitors are using IE5 or 6 on Windows XP or 2000 with at least 800x600. My teacher would hate this, but I reckon if you're gonna use the web - you gotta keep up - browser updates are free, plug-ins (like quicktime, flash, etc) are free - the software developers aren't doing what they do as a hobby - eventually, all browsers will handle/must handle code similarly (my code works the same in Netscape 6 as it does in IE6) - the w3 consortium is busting its back to get conformity in order to nurture and encourage the usage and advancement of the Web - users have a responsibility to keep their browsers up to date in order to support Web development. The day approaches when I'll stop checking my work in 4.78

Makes some sense.

Gonna be the same with me too--i.e. some day when I can afford buying a modern-times-machine, of course.

I am currently surfing from a MAC OS X with IE5. Pretty nifty. Wonder when IE will be made available to the rest of the *nix world.

Netscape 7.1 Rules
Netscape 7.1 is a godsend. I have not had one problem, yet. Once again, I feel the folks at Netscape have taken a leap ahead of Microsoft (not to mention the fact that I have never been afraid to download and install a new version of Netscape on my computer. I say that, because Microsoft products so often have bugs that I fear upgrading, especially because they make it so difficult to uninstall their products once you have installed them. Damn them).
Advantages NS7.1 has over IE 5.X (I am currently using 5.50.blahblahblah, because of the paranoia mentioned earlier): First and foremost we have an unwanted popup blocker. Netscape notifies you everytime it blocks an unwanted popup (in case you wanted it), but you don't have to worry about all kinds of crap popping up all over your desktop.
In addition (and this may sound crazy, but it's not really) Netscape has always been faster than IE for me. A lot of times (when I was using a dialup connection) IE would act like it couldn't find my connection for about 5 or 10 minutes at a time. However, Netscape always found my connection and loaded the pages and sites without any trouble at all.
Netscape is much more compatible with Winamp, which, IMO is a million times better than Windows Media Player. (Microsoft with all their damn ambitions of controlling your entire computer. Don't be surprised if Microsoft takes over Adobe in the next few years. At this point, Adobe seems to be the only major company besides Microsoft that has software on almost everyone's computer in the world [at least PDF reader]. You know Microsoft won't put up with that for too much longer.)
Anyway. There are quite a few other things I like about Netscape, but I will leave this post where it is for now.
