Netscape 8 help

I am having problems with the new Netscape 8 browzer. I have homework to do online, and when I type in the correct field and make a mistake, when I hit the backspace key, it closes out my tab. If I have only one tab open, it reverts to the previous page I visited. This is driving me insane. I went to the Options panel and tab controls among other things and there is nothing that helps me with this problem.

I looked on the Netscape help page and they want $19.95 for me to ask them why their product has gone defunct on me. Is there anyone out there that can help me before I lose my mind?
