Mozilla usage?
So how many of you are using the new Mozilla browser? If you are, how do you like it?
Thank you,
Allen

Well, I am mainly using the new Mozilla 1.0 webbrowser. I do not just like it. I love it !!!
Why ? Because it gives the websurfer some choice of webbrowser again. Alright, we had Opera, but that's adware. A good webbrowser just needs to be free if it wants a lot of users. Mozilla is perfect for that reason.
But about Mozilla: the browser itself is fine. It works extremely well when using Windows XP. But also with other operating systems its performance is fine.
You should see my Mozilla-article at http://www.breekpunt.nl/artikel.asp?Artikel=472&art=Yes
The only problem for you is that I wrote it in the Dutch language. But you can look at the pictures anyway to see what one can do with Mozilla. There even is an Internet Explorer-skin for Mozilla to have Mozilla look quite like Internet Explorer (for those people who find it hard to make the change).
To see what Mozilla can be up to, just move over to http://www.mozdev.org There are a lot of projects to extend Mozilla. There you find a GoogleBar to easily search Google just like http://toolbar.google.com and other useful projects like that.
Greetings,
Martijn

I haven't gotten around yet. I still have a copy of Mozilla 0.95 installed which I downloaded to see how my sites look with/in that browser, but that is all. Although I don't like, but my daily Internet pleasure is dominated by Bill's p.o.s. (piece of software).
Tom
P.S.
The Google toolbar I have in IE as well. Installed it like six months ago.

I like it a lot. It's very stable and very rich on features! Plus, I like the Mozilla ICON a lot and how you are able to customize the entire browser through skins and add ons. Great piece of open source software.
Btw, did any of you get the 1.1 alpha release yet?

Google made their toolbar for the majority of the Internet-users and they, if you like it or not, use Internet Explorer. But the Googlebar-project was started to create this ideal bar for Mozilla: Googlebar-project
I you like other search-engines, you should also have a look at the MyCroft-project. It creates Sherlock-plugins for use in Mozilla's sidebar. So you can search your favorite site from the sidebar.
About the icons: there are nice new : icon-sets
Hey, I see that Deskmod also lists Mozilla-splashscreens They even have quite unique ones. I know some more, but have not seen these ones yet.
About Mozilla 1.1 alpha: I currently use it because I am translating Mozilla to the Dutch language. But it has an ugly bug when one changes the language of the browser. So I suggest everyone waits for Mozilla 1.1 beta (which is close according to Mozillazine.org).
What is in Mozilla 1.1 alpha ? The things that did not make Mozilla 1.0 (mostly because of instability or because it was not completely ready). So with Mozilla 1.1 one can block images from certain servers (for example: the advertising-networks and such). There also is a download-manager included. And there are some more of these nice additional functions.
Greetings,
Martijn

Yeah, it's not "stable", but it's interesting to see what they add in each version (read post above by "nirwana" for details).
The link I pasted is the installer for a "Talkback enabled build", which means, that it's able to send data to the Mozilla developers if it crashes.

Here are the releasenotes of version 1.1 alpha: http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.1a/
This enables you to see what's new and decide whether you'd like to download this version (expect bugs, so for the curious under us).
When the beta-version will be released I will definitely download it and might post some details here.

Martijn

I never heard about that before! What exaclty is so good about it? Phoenix sounds like something reborn from the ashes.
Btw, I'd probably choose the latest Mozilla built. Would I have an Internet-ready computer on this island? :drown hehehhe.
I saw this Symbian OS on a ***** communicator, and it has a neat little browser which even supports frames and CSS 1.0. That's a killer.

Phoenix reborn from the ashes ? Then it must be Mozilla reborn from the ashes. Not that Mozilla is assumed to be dead, but still there are people out there that are not using Mozilla, despite the good technology that's in there.
Also still there were people with complaints against Mozilla and how some things were handled. So some Mozilla-hackers stood up and thought "we can make a good browser based on the Mozilla-code".
Well, they immediately proved it, stripped the Mozilla-browser way down (no email-client, no HTML-editor, just a browser) and named it Phoenix.
Now there is a little naming-conflict because the Phoenix-name is already a trademark somewhere. So they will change their name soon, I guess. But anyway they created a great little browser: the speed of Mozilla's page-rendering without any bloat and with nice features that people like in other browsers.
With release 0.5 the browser already has lots of skins and extensions. Have a look at http://phoenixhelp.cjb.net for an overview.
And this is only 0.5, so they're halfway to making this the best browser out there. Watch out for more: http://www.mozilla.org/projects/phoenix

Martijn

I have Mozilla at home and it's not bug free. Then again, none of the browsers really is.
I have to admit that I like the new Mozilla a lot.
