I use the free version of WebCEO. It submitted my website to about 100 search engines (some from other countries). It showed me which ones were successful and which ones failed.
There is a tool in there that shows me things such as how many of my websites pages the search engine has indexed. It will show me how many pages are in the top 5, top 10, top 20, top 30. It will show me how many pages are indexed compared to last time I ran the software etc.
It will help me find keywords relevant to my website, show me how many daily searches there are for that keyword, etc and determine how much competition there is.
It also helps optimize pages for search engines and shows me things I should do such as placing alt titles on my images, etc.
I'm still not listed high in search engines for keywords I'd like, but it's a learning process. I've only started doing all this a few months ago and since then I've had a lot of progress (such as being listed in a bunch of search engines and more of my pages being indexed).
